Chief Accountant


  • Manage and review day-to-day transactions and bookkeeping in compliance with national legal requirements, NGO accounting principles, and corporate policies.

  • Maintain financial ledger, update daily cash and bank transactions, and reconcile accounts payable and receivables.

  • File and organize relevant financial, contractual, and personnel documentation in both hard copy and digital formats.

  • Record cash and bank transactions in registers and maintain a well-organized voucher filing system.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to local authorities and stakeholders.

  • Prepare and submit monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Trial Balance, and Cash Flow.

  • Provide regular financial updates to the Finance & Administration Coordinator.

  • Calculate and pay taxes to the relevant authorities on time.

  • Reconcile financial data with local GAAP and provide detailed commentary on reconciling differences.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing within corporate deadlines.

  • Interact with business partners in compliance with Ukrainian legislation, ensuring the legal and financial correctness of agreements and timely payments.

  • Check contracts, work/acceptance acts, and supplier invoices, maintaining primary documentation in accordance with legislative requirements.

  • Stay updated on government regulations and ensure organizational compliance.

  • Assist with external audit requests and support internal control framework adherence.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of project equipment and participate in stock takes.

  • Coordinate with HR Officer on personnel issues, including hiring, dismissal, vacation, and sick leave.

  • Assist in drafting HR and operations orders.

  • Calculate payroll and ensure proper filing of salary transactions.

  • Provide calculations for annual vacation leave and business trip daily allowances.

  • Issue certificates of accrued income upon employee request.

  • Register employees at the bank for the salary plan.

  • Perform any other financial tasks assigned by the Head of Support, Country Director, or project leadership.

Selection Criteria

Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Finance & Accounting.

  • Understanding of local labor law and tax code.

  • Strong planning and organizing skills.

  • Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts.

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian (written and spoken).

  • Experience in humanitarian/recovery context preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and research skills.

  • Excellent writing and reporting skills.

  • Proficiency in IT tools (MS Office, 1C).

Qualifications/Personal Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to work under pressure with short deadlines.


  • English (B1-B2).

  • Ukrainian/Russian (B2-C1).
